Penguins’ Tom Sestito suspended after penalty-filled promotion: ‘He wasn’t called up to dangle’

The Penguins’ pre-game promotion of career enforcer Tom Sestito from the AHL ranks Wednesday was about as transparent as could be, considering their opponent, the Jets, were NFL Jerseys China intent on settling unfinished business from a chippy meeting earlier in the season.

The juxtaposition of the two — Shaw, a fourth-line forward, suspended with his team trailing in the series 3-1, and Getzlaf, a star player, fined with his team tied 2-2 — sent the message that the NHL would hold its players to a conduct standard, but maybe not at the expense of impacting the outcome of a playoff game.

More recently, it was reported Dallas’ bid for the 2018 NFL Draft could be in jeopardy should the state’s lawmakers pass the proposed “bathroom bill.”

But if the NHL was to act now, it would delineate that the discrimination being proposed in this legislature is unacceptable and the league will not conduct its business in any environment that promotes exclusivity.

While the Stars took the first step in using their platform and reach to speak Cheap Liverpool Soccer Jerseys up against a discriminatory bill that, in its current form, is harmful and hate-inspired, the NHL can act next. And the league is vocally aware of the situation: On Wednesday, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told Sportsnet, “We strongly oppose the bill in its original form. We hope and expect that bill in that form will not be passed into law. We would obviously have to reassess the situation in the event that happens.”

But the NHL shouldn’t wait for the outcome. Though the league recently announced Dallas will host the 2018 draft, what would send the loudest message that hockey is for everyone and the NHL is an inclusive environment is pulling the event from Texas altogether.
